The aim of this course is to develop the knowledge and skills required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults in an education and care setting.
The unit applies to educators, coordinators and other relevant staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.
This qualification satisfies the ACECQA requirement for workers in regulated education and care organisations’ to possess a qualification in First aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis emergency response. The unit is listed on the ACECQA website as an approved First aid course.
Clients will be forwarded learning materials approximately one week prior to commencement of face to face delivery that they will read to refresh/develop knowledge and understanding of the course content and concepts. Clients can contact their trainer via phone and/or e-mail for support prior to the face to face sessions. Clients are encouraged to contact their Trainer during this time.
Clients will also be instructed to access and read the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines relating to the unit content prior to attending the face to face training.
Client will attend the face to face training and on completion of this undertake Summative assessments. Clients will be provided the opportunity to consolidate their knowledge and skills in between the completion of face to face sessions and assessment (if required). Clients may contact their trainer for support/ assistance outside of scheduled face to face contact times.
The following techniques are employed during face to face delivery depending on the subject matter:
power point presentations, trainer demonstrations, individual tasks, case studies, research, role plays, practical demonstrations and group work. The context of the simulated first aid situations will be incorporated into delivery and assessment methodologies and client’s complete tasks to appropriate industry standards.
Clients will be provided opportunities for formative assessment during delivery. Trainers provide feedback to clients on areas for improvements to facilitate the development of appropriate knowledge and skills and prepare them for summative assessment.

Client’s competence against the unit of competence specifications is assessed at the completion of face to face training. Clients are provided with opportunities for re-assessment if they fail to demonstrate competency during assessment tasks.
Clients will be informed of assessment processes and methodologies pre-enrolment and at orientation. Assessors will provide copies of the assessment tasks in accordance with the assessment schedule and discuss the assessment requirements with each client prior to them attempting each task.
All clients are provided with the opportunity to have their prior learning and experience assessed and gain recognition for this. Clients who have successfully completed whole units of competency with a Australian registered Training Organisation that are identical to any of those contained within this course can apply for Credit Transfer.
