Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
The aim of this course is to develop the knowledge and skills required by workers in a range of early childhood education settings who work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They support the implementation of an approved learning framework, and support children’s wellbeing, learning and development. Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct supervision or autonomously.
This course is delivered over 56 weeks.
Clients are provided with an induction to the course to outline the learning and assessment processes, support services and other relevant information.
A blended delivery mode is employed including workplace delivery and face to face training that takes place in the Thinkpoint training facility. Clients also undertake independent study during the course. Some units of competency have common content so we therefore adopt a ‘clustered’ approach to delivery where units are delivered in conjunction with others.
Workplace delivery is a methodology used to develop students’ knowledge and skills. i.e. students learn on the job and practice applying knowledge and skills when completing workplace tasks.
Clients also complete work placement requirements for 4 units of competency during the workplace delivery component of the course. Work placement as its name suggests is undertaken in the workplace and therefore is a component of the workplace delivery and assessment methodology.
The following techniques are employed during face to face delivery depending on the subject matter: power point presentations, individual tasks, case studies, research, role plays, practical demonstrations and group work.
During non-contact time clients will be provided with text books to develop knowledge and understanding. This includes a mixture of theoretical information and tasks. Text books include sufficient information for the clients to learn the topic, undertake practice activities and complete tasks. Clients will be supported by their trainers outside of class contact time.
Clients will be provided opportunities for formative assessment during delivery. Trainers provide feedback to clients on areas for improvements to facilitate the development of appropriate knowledge and skills and prepare them for summative assessment.
Assessment will take place at Thinkpoint’s training facility, the clients workplace/ work placement organisation and in their own time.
Some units of competency have common content so we therefore adopt a ‘clustered’ approach to assessment where units may be assessed in conjunction with others using the one assessment tool.
4 units of competency require the student to complete a minimum of 120 hours in the workplace or work placement organisation. Assessment methods include a combination of written tests, projects, reports, portfolios and practical demonstration of skills.
Client’s competency against the unit of competency specifications are assessed throughout the course. Clients are provided with opportunities for re-assessment if they fail to demonstrate competency during assessment tasks.
Clients will be informed of assessment processes and methodologies pre enrolment and at orientation. Assessors will provide copies of the assessment tasks in accordance with the assessment schedule and discuss the assessment requirements with each client prior to them attempting each task.
Client’s Language, Literacy and Numeracy ability is assessed in conjunction with their knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications in accordance with Learning and assessment strategy. On completion of the assessment Thinkpoint determines if the course is suitable for the client and addresses their learning needs.
Clients must have access to a regulated education and care service facility that provides early childhood education and care services to School aged and pre-school children. Thinkpoint provides each client with information on the facilities, equipment, resources, operational contexts and clientele that each workplace must provide to facilitate course requirements.
The candidate must be able to fulfil assessment and work placement requirements of the course in a regulated education and care service facility. Thinkpoint will arrange work placement for clients (i.e. place clients in regulated education and care service facility). Work placement requirements will be discussed with all clients’ pre enrolment. Clients must have a current working with children check to satisfy legislative requirements for working in a regulated education and care organisation.

On successful completion of this course clients may progress onto courses in the following areas:
CHC50113 Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care or other related courses at Diploma level in the Community Services Training Package.
This qualification may provide entry into employment in the following or related roles:
Early childhood educator
Child development worker
Training and assessment will take place at the Thinkpoint Training facility 38 Blackwood Road Logan Central QLD and the client’s workplace/ work placement organisation.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT)
All clients are provided with the opportunity to have their prior learning and experience assessed and gain recognition for this. Clients who have successfully completed whole units of competency with a Australian registered Training Organisation that are identical to any of those contained within this course can apply for Credit Transfer.
On successful completion of this course, clients will receive a CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. A Statement of attainment will be provided to clients to indicate the units they have successfully completed if they do not successfully complete all units in the course.

The total fee charged for this course is $2800 (includes text books). This can be paid in instalments over the duration of the course.
Recognition of prior learning fee $100 per unit.
